Essential Oils Help to Rewrite Old Habits

Human beings are creatures of habit. When we begin to incorporate new practices into our lives, the most important part of that new practice is how easily it can become a habit. Researchers at MIT have deeply explored the topic of habits and ritual, finding that habits are behaviors wired so deeply in our brains that we perform them automatically.

Unfortunately, most people have habits that are not fulfilling and in some cases, are damaging to our wellbeing. The key, the researchers found, is finding out what your Habit Loop is and rewriting a a new habit. There is no such thing as “breaking a habit”, it is truly a matter of choosing a new one. In every habit there is a cue, a ritual/routine and then a reward.

So, in order to create a deep and true shift in your body systems, we need to examine our daily rituals/routines and trace them to their cues/rewards. This is highlighted extensively in Charles Duhigg’s books, which I also recommend highly if this topic is especially fascinating to you.

If you wake up and, not wanting to get out of bed yet, busy yourself by looking at your phone; you are setting off stress and cortisol in your body first thing. You are rewarded with that boost of adrenaline, but that cycle will eventually wreak havoc on your body. This is a habit that needs an overhaul.



Make Your Oil Routine a Ritual

What I am suggesting, is that you use this yoga collection as a ritual in laying a NEW habit.

First, set your alarm to wake you up 5-15 minutes before you really need to get out of the bed. Make sure that your alarm is NOT  a jolting, loud noise, since that also boosts cortisol and the stress response. Upon opening your eyes, sara your new habit with a moment of gratitude for another day.  Say the mantra “Thank you, thank you, thank you” as you apply Anchor to your feet and tailbone.

Next, stand up and as you stand with feet shoulders length apart. Drip a drop of Align down your spine and spread it out as best you can. This gets the oil into the nervous bundles that innervate all your vital organs, and brings them into alignment with your intention for the day.

Stretch your hands about your body and up to the sky, say, “I am one with God and at peace with my life”. Bend at the waist and stretch your hands towards your toes. Say, “I am flexible and flow along through my day like a river in a forest”.

Finally, place a drop of Arise on the top of your head. Visualize a large ball of golden light in your abdomen, visualize it growing larger and larger. Watch as it grows larger than your body, larger than your room, larger than your house. Continue to visualize the ball of light stretching and growing all the way up to the sun, being recharged by that bright Golden heat. Say aloud, “I am awake”.

This ritual, when it becomes a habit, is capable of melting away stress and shifting your mindset. Do this for a full 21 days before switching it up. It is extra helpful if you keep a journal every day, even if it is just to note how you are feeling after every mornings ritual.
